Dr. Javedur Rahman


Dr Javedur Rahman is a public health expert with about 25 years of working experience ranging from surgical exposure in Urology at BIRDEM hospital to public health issues related to maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), adolescent reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, pharmaceutical management systems, pharmacovigilance (PV), antimicrobial resistance (AMR)etc. Dr Rahman holds a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) degree from the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) and a second MPH degree from the University of New South Wales, Sydney.

A government official, he qualified for the Bangladesh civil service and worked as a faculty at NIPSOM under the Ministry of Health. He then joined Save the Children, USA and worked with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation under Saving the Newborn Lives (SNL) program as a Senior Technical Advisor (STA). Dr Rahman later worked with The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as Senior Advisor- MNCH under the SIAPS program implemented by Arlington based Management Sciences for Health (MSH). Under his leadership the first ever electronic logistics management information system(e-LMIS) for tracking lifesaving MNCH medicines was introduced in Bangladesh and is gradually being scaled up nation-wide. He is currently the Senior Technical Advisor-MNCH/PV/AMR for USAID/MTaPS.

Dr Rahman is an Aus-AiD Scholar and recipient of Pakistan-Bangladesh Technical Assistance Award. He has several publications and abstracts published in journals of microbiology, obstetrics & gynaecology and Bangladesh armed forces medical journal. He was the coinvestigator of the Postnatal care study in Bangladesh, the abstract findings of which were
shared at the American Academy of Paediatrics and published in the Healthy Newborn Network (HNN)website. He contributed in the “Newborn survival in Bangladesh: a decade of change and future implications” that was published by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicines and also for the country’s first National Neonatal Health Strategy. Dr Javed participated as a speaker in various national and international seminar/conferences at home and abroad on behalf of Save the Children USA and USAID’s SIAPS and MTaPS programs. He is a strong advocate in “ending preventable child and maternal deaths” (EPCMD).

Dr Javed is married and has two children. He takes keen interest in cricket, football, boxing and tennis. In his spare time, he loves to travel, listen to music and watch movies. He plays golf every now and then.
